James Gouch

Meet Our Founder:

James Gouch is the founder of “Amputees Are Awesome,” an organization dedicated to empowering amputees through uplifting stories and support. His journey began with a tragic event at age 4, when he lost his father, and continued with relentless challenges. These included bullying and a learning disability during his youth, but he found solace in basketball, which helped him secure a scholarship and a path to a brighter future.

After a devastating accident in 1988 that resulted in the loss of his left leg and another that took one of his eyes, James refused to be defined by his injuries. The losses, including that of his grandfather to cancer, led him into depression and alcoholism. However, in 2003, James found the strength to overcome his struggles and embarked on a journey to sobriety and personal growth.

Today, James Gouch is a symbol of perseverance and resilience. He continues to inspire others by sharing his journey and leading “Amputees Are Awesome,” making it his mission to support and uplift fellow amputees.
